I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for showing me around your fabulous FACT building yesterday. It’s so warm and comfortable and definitely a place where people will feel safe. As you know I’m currently on secondment to project manage the Living With and Beyond Cancer programme in North Tyneside. So much of what you already do fits well with this. You have a very compassionate but practical approach to help your clients, or ‘FACT Family’ as I know they liked to be called, to improve their general wellbeing by providing them with opportunities to engage in emotional support, exercise and healthy eating.
In my usual role of Community Macmillan Nurse in South East Northumberland, I often struggle to find somewhere accessible to help me support patients. The services you offer, such as wig fitting, bra measuring, breast prosthesis (I could go on and on!) are services that patients often have to travel to find which is a bit of a trauma when you have cancer and are having energy-sapping treatment. I think, though, that the thing that really stood out to me yesterday was your support of families, especially children whose parent may be coping with cancer. We have huge problems in accessing pre and post bereavement support for children so this will be an invaluable resource for us.
It was a pleasure to meet you and your wonderful team yesterday and I look forward to working with you in the future.
